The Friday Chris Sanders' Edition

Spring is in full swing and I'm absolutely loving it. Coming home to the new apartment and seeing people laying out poolside can't help but put you in a good mood.

Last week was my 1st spring break since 2008 when I was an undergrad and went to PCB. Needless to say I was looking forward to having a week off. One of the many perks of working at a school is that you get a good amount of holidays that normal jobs don't get and I certainly get a lot more time off than my previous job where I worked. At the old place of employment we got off one day for Thanksgiving and had a work a half day on Christmas Eve, to say my new holiday schedule is an improvement would be an understatement.

Another perk of spring is the baseball season starting up again. This song always reminds me of driving down into Atlanta to tailgate in front of The Ted

This past week, during spring break, I got tickets to a couple sporting events. The first one was Wrestlemania 27 at the Georgia Dome and it was a spectacle. My buddy's dad got us box seats and to be honest I was looking forward to going but it wasn't something that I was all that excited about. 10 mins after entering the Dome I realized what kind of event I was in far, an evening of awesome.

What more needs to be said about this picture? Wrestling and the stars and stripes, America...

Growing up I loved wrestling and would be glued to the tv on Monday and Friday nights. Seeing the stage and everything going on that night in the Dome brought me back to that. For anyone who watched it the HHH vs Undertaker it was easily the best wrestling match I've ever see, live or on tv. I don't think that I can attend another wrestling event live again unless it's Wrestlemania because nothing will top what I witnessed in Atlanta. Can anything better The Rock back at Wrestlemania, Stone Cold Steve Austin driving a 4-wheeler in and proceeding to crush beers and stun folk, and the epic HHH vs Undertaker match? I say no.

Later on I attended the Braves home opener vs the Phillies with a group of friends. This was the third year in a row that I've attended the home opener and is something that I want to make a tradition. Fortunately with it being spring break I was able to get down to Turner Field early and make a day of it.

Ya, like I said we got there early. We were able to set up on the walkway in the green lot, which is the place to be to tailgate at The Ted if you ask me, and enjoy the day. It was an awesome time cooking out and tailgating before the game with old and new friends. We headed into the game in time to see the opening day pre-game festivities and had awesome seats in the outfield.

We saw the baton being passed from the old regime to the new regime as Bobby Cox tossed out the first pitch to Freddi Gonzalez. After that it was play ball and as a fan of baseball and the Braves it was an awesome game. After a little bit of a stumble at the beginning the Braves stormed out to a lead and never relinquished it. All in all a great opening day of friends, tailgating, and baseball. It really has me looking forward future games.

After the game, and after every Friday night game, they have Friday Night Fireworks which is advertised as the South's largest fireworks display. I took the Saturday game off but decided to head down to the ballpark Sunday to watch the rubber match of the Braves vs. Phillies series. Not as good of seats as the ones on Friday night but I was in the shade which was convenient considering my Irish complexion.

Unfortunately the outcome was less than favorable but after the game we were able to enjoy a free concert by up and coming band The Avett Brothers. The one thing that sucked was that the sound quality at Turner Field was terrible. We were sitting in the upper deck and you'd hear the music from field speakers about a half second before the sound would come through the Turner Field PA speakers. Awesome band though and it was a cool show to get for free (pic sorta sucks but it is what it is).

Lastly after an eight month absence I am planning on making my triumphant return to Knoxville, TN for the Tennessee spring scrimmage, The Orange and White Game. I wasn't originally going to go since I will be traveling so much this summer to weddings, wedding showers, and bachelor parties but I was able to hop in a car with a few other people. Looking forward to this weekend and seeing some friends I haven't seen in a while and hopefully hitting up The Bean. I know my posts have been sporadic but I'll get something up early next week about the weekend in Knoxville and maybe a spring practice/spring game recap. Already looking forward to hearing "It's football time in Tennessee", even if it's just for an inter-squad scrimmage.
